no matter how hard i try....i am just not good at it....i suck at being a dad.
it is that time of the year when my son's school has their father/son - mother/daughter chapels. last year i grumbled about it and in the end did nothing. this year my son mentioned it several times and stated that other boys said their dads would be coming and the dads did attend. i interpreted it as his disappointment for not having his dad there and for being the one without a dad present--an oddball.
i emailed the school pastor and stated i was a single, widowed mom with a son. i asked if mothers went with their sons if there were not fathers. he answered my email within minutes stating that i certainly could attend and there would be other mothers there for their sons also.
when i went to tell my son about the email, he had a bit of an outburst. he asked me not to go, stating that they discussed things in the chapel that were not for moms. i asked if they talked about sexual purity and he affirmed my assumption. now he seems to be more upset and i am upset and torn. he and i have had conversations about such topics before. i guess it is one thing to have them at home and another thing to be in the presence of others, especially mixed with your mom. it is one of those "no win" times. i cannot fix it. i can't be a dad.
